The whole reason I picked up my camera in the first place was to document my family and all the crazy, exhausting, and sweet moments of childhood. Here are some of my favorite personal photos from 2018. Whether you use your iPhone, a DSLR, or just prefer to hire a photographer , capture these moments! I promise you won't regret it.
My crazy girl is 3! Every year I like to take the time to get special, individual photos of my kids on their birthday. It's not only great for capturing milestones, but it makes them feel special and important, because its a little photo shoot just for them without siblings or parents. I try to encourage them to just interact with me and let them lead, that way I capture their true characteristics and mannerisms and have a little piece of their personality preserved in photos.
We went on vacation to Saint Simons Island at the end of May. Of course, when you are the children of a photographer, you are required to dress up and take photos :)
I'm so excited to announce The White Room Studio!!! This in home studio has been a plan of mine for a while now. First let me say, that I am still primarily an on location, natural light, outdoor photographer. Also, I feel I need to give the disclaimer that I don't believe in lots of props. It's a plain white room for a reason! The focus is on the subjects and makes for timeless images.
To celebrate this new space, and to give all my clients the opportunity for updated portraits before my maternity leave, I'm going to be offering Minis in February! The details will be announced later this week. Clients and MHP Insiders (those who have signed up for my newsletter) will be notified of Mini Details first and get the first chance to sign up. After that I'll announce and open booking for the public. So if you haven't already signed up for my email list, be sure to do that!
This new studio space will open the door for some fun new opportunities for clients! After my maternity leave, I plan on rolling out these new options:
1. A first year/baby club plan!- Babies change SO much that first year. This means I can capture your newborn photos, and then you can come into the studio for mini sessions to get milestone photos to update throughout that pivotal 1st year.
2. A miniture newborn session- For those who want a shortened newborn session in the studio instead of the full newborn session in their home. These sessions will be shortened and discounted, but will still be lifestyle. (That's a fancy way of saying I don't do props and super posed photos.) These sessions will be a great alternative to the in home session and will just focus on getting a full family shot, a sibling shot, a parent/newborn shot, and of course one of the newborn individually.
3. Get ready for this one.... SANTA!!!- Ok, so I still have to talk to the big guy himself to make sure I can fit in his ever so busy schedule. But this will be an awesome way to get photos with Santa without having to brave the mall!!! (Does even thinking about that give anyone else a little anxiety attack like it does me?)
As always, thank you all for your support and for allowing me to photograph little parts of your life! And a huge thank you to my husband, who was the sole contractor, laborer, encourager, wrangler of children, and all around helper for this job :)
I started taking pictures for one main reason, to document the childhood of my kids. The day before my oldest, Baxter, turned 2, I took my camera everywhere we went and photographed his entire day exactly as it happened. There were no posed moments, no picture perfect setups. I simply kept my camera nearby and documented his last day as a 1 year old. To this day, those pictures of my boy are some of my all time favorite photos. I still look back at them and they bring back every memory of that sweet stage of life with him, including all his unique mannerisms and habits. I can't believe it, but now my baby girl is there! Emmy Kate is turning 2, so I pulled out my camera yesterday and documented her last day as a 1 year old. She is so different from her brother and is quite the character. At home she is stuck to me like glue, but in public she runs as fast and far away as she can. She loves to kiss everyone's boo boos, she is incredibly affectionate, she loves babies (and may have picked up a 3 month old and walked across a room with her recently...), she is fearless, she is goofy, she absolutely loves to dance, and she is SO messy that it stretches this former neat-freak mama into letting go a little more every day. We love you so Emmy Kate! (P.S. I promise my kid wears clothes, we are mid-potty training which helps to explain the lack of pants!)
A Day in the Life of Emmy Kate
I really love photos and photography in general, but my absolute, all-time favorite pictures are not the ones of families that are perfectly posed and smiling. It's photos of children that capture a true peek into childhood. There are so many small things that our children do everyday that can easily be forgotten through the years. It is so precious to capture these little memories in your own home to remind you of these little moments that pass so quickly. While I would love to come into your home and capture these moments for you (for real, I would love to start doing in home, non-styled sessions! But that's a blog for another day!), it's mostly likely that these moments will only occur when kids are in their own space in their normal routines. But YOU can do it Mama! Whether you are using your iPhone or a DSLR, you can get better photos of your kids that are beautiful and timeless. Here are a few easy changes you can make to get better photos today!
Thank you for your patience! I've been much slower than normal in my response to messages because we have been on vacation. We're back now and I'm preparing for fall sessions! I know we are all beginning to crave the coolness of fall, but here is a last little taste of the sweetness of summer!
